Hadīth and Sīra Studies
Hadīth and Sīra Studies is a peer-reviewed and biannual journal, published in June and December.
Hadīth and Sīra Studies adopts the principles of open access and transparent scientific publishing. It is a non-commercial journal which prioritises public interest and international scientific publication ethics. Access to the content of the journal, both hard-copies and online version, is free of charge. Hadīth and Sīra Studies is financed by the Meridian Association, which carries out various international projects in the fields of ḥadīth and sīra.

Scope:
Hadīth and Sīra Studies is a peer-reviewed academic journal. It is concerned with all aspects of classical and contemporary hadīth and sīra research. It welcomes multidisciplinary contributions to hadīth and sīra studies especially from literature, history, sociology, psychology, and educational sciences as well as other branches of Islamic studies. It gives special emphasis to international perspectives and values the works of authors from diverse intellectual traditions. Hadīth and Sīra Studies publishes notes, translations, reviews of books, symposiums and conferences in addition to articles in Turkish, Arabic, English, German and French.
Submission:
Authors should submit their manuscript online at [email protected]. Manuscripts should contain the full name, academic affiliation, ORCID information and contact details of the author. Following submission, authors will receive a confirmation of receipt within three days.

- Hadīth and Sīra Studies is committed to the highest national and international standards in terms of ethics of scientific research and publishing.
- Hadīth and Sīra Studies adopts and follows the principles of publication ethics of international institutions such as Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), the Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association (OASPA), and the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME). 3. The author guarantees that s/he committed to the principles of international publication ethics and transparency within the framework stated above.
4. According to the publishing policy of the journal, plagiarism, salami-slicing, duplication, false authorship or denial of authorship, research and data fabrication, copyright infringement are considered unethical behaviours.
5. The manuscripts should not be previously published elsewhere in any language. When the manuscript is based on previously published or presented materials such as theses or conference papers, this should be indicated on the first page with a footnote.
6. The manuscripts should not be submitted to any other journal or publisher while still under consideration for Hadīth and Sīra Studies.
7. If the manuscript is a translation of an article or a book chapter previously published, the translator should obtain written permission from the author and the respective copyright owner(s). This written permissions (or correspondence) should be sent to the journal with the translation.
8. It is the fundamental principle of the journal to comply with national and international copyright laws and principles for the use of all kinds of ideas and works of art. Authors should send the necessary permissions to the journal together with the article.
9. In case of multiple writers, there cannot be any kind of change in authors’ names or order during or after the review process.
10. For studies requiring the approval of the ethics committee such as clinical studies or experiments or surveys, interviews and observations, the information and documents indicating the approval of the ethics committee should be included in manuscripts. This approval should also be stated in the final draft of the manuscripts.
Editor’s Responsibilities:
- The editor initially reviews the manuscripts in accordance with scientific and ethical rules. Manuscripts sent to the Journal are first scanned by plagiarism programs. The accepted similarity rate is below %15 (quotations excluded)
- The editor ensures the manuscripts to go through the double-blind review process and guarantees all the information about manuscripts to stay confidential until the publication.
- The editor should not allow any kind of conflict of interest between the authors and the reviewers.
- If one of the reviewers determines a case of plagiarism, the editor rejects the manuscript without waiting for the opinion of the other reviewer’s and concludes the review process.
- The editor scans the manuscripts using the internationally recognized plagiarism checker software such as iThenticate or Turnitin even if no such case has been detected by the reviewers. In case of any ethical violation, the editor rejects the manuscripts forthwith.
- The editor reminds the reviewers that the manuscripts belong to their respective authors and the information about the manuscripts or their content should not be shared with third parties.
Reviewers’ Responsibilities:
- Reviewers should be objective and must not be in conflict of interest with the authors.
- If reviewers determine any kind of plagiarism, they are under obligation to inform the editor.
- Reviewers should not discuss the manuscripts with third parties and cannot share or publish their contents on any platform.
Publication:
Manuscripts submitted for publication will not be returned.
